Why have an Annual Maintenance Contract for your CCTV System?
There are two very important reasons to have a Maintenance Contract for your CCTV System:
First of all, because the CCTV surveillance system of your building has a central role in your safety and security. For the surveillance system to be effective it should be in perfect working order. The security cameras should be clean and focused correctly and the video recorder should be recording properly.
Secondly, if you are in Dubai then SIRA requires you to take out an AMC for your CCTV system. SIRA also requires that the Annual Maintenance Contract Agreement be created on its online portal. SIRA does not give its NOC without this and without SIRA NOC you cannot renew your trade license.
Therefore, you should take out an AMC for your CCTV System every year. Also, you should sign it with a company approved by the local authorities.
Why is Preventive Maintenance Required?
To ensure that your CCTV surveillance system continues to perform at an optimal level, you should have preventive maintenance done at regular intervals. More so in UAE where the country’s humid and dusty climate is more harmful to electronic equipment. Over a short period of time, a thin film of tiny sand particles accumulates on all surfaces. This thin film of dust on the lens of cameras degrades the quality of images.
Fine dust particles and humidity in the air also combine to form sticky deposits inside electronic equipment. These deposits around fan grills and air vents prevent the proper cooling of the devices. This may result in short-circuits or burnouts in the electronic circuits of these devices.
Over a period of time box and bullet cameras fixed to mount brackets may lose their position due to shock, vibration or mishaps. Electrical spikes due to voltage surges, lightning or electromagnetic interference from light fixtures and electric lines sometimes also degrade the quality of security cameras.

- Verify if ‘field of view’ (FoV) is correct.
- Verify cameras are focused correctly.

- Ensure that cameras are fixed firmly.

- Ensure that all glands are water-tight.
CCTV Cabling
- Check the integrity power plugs.
- Insulate coax connectors from metal.
- Ensure cables are dressed neatly.
